Capturing the Broad Landscape
– Do you feel overwhelmed at the thought of trying to capture a great view on paper? Class study is concentrated around breaking down your chosen landscape into shape and value elements. Creating color studies to mimic atmospheric conditions and finally painting a quick color study that captures the essence of the view. The beauty of an illustrated journal is that we are not going for a detailed painting. The aim is to capture how the landscape makes us feel. Pure joy and wonder can be put on paper once you know the steps to make it happen.

Lettering
A portion of each class will be devoted to the study of lettering in the Versal Style. It’s a great way to warm up your eye-hand coordination as you study letter forms. By the end of all four classes, you’ll have a good understanding of upper and lower case Versals you can use on your journal pages.
Bring a lined pad or copy paper to practice.
