About

My Perspective

My Story

The act of creating art, whether in nature or in the studio, piques a sense of discovery, helps celebrate the everyday, gives balance, heals the soul and preserves the heart of the child within.

Simple, Yet Powerful

Keeping a sketchbook is a powerful art tool.  In  its safety net, all that’s mentioned above can be yours. True tonic for your soul.  Even 15 minutes of concentrated study using your eyes,  mind, heart and hand  will make you feel like you’ve taken an hour long break from the daily grind.  What a lovely way to stay fresh and invigorated!

Why?

The overall good-for-the-soul feeling that creativity provides is what gets me up in the morning.  This is the ‘why’ behind my need to guide and teach others about keeping a sketchbook journal, grow their mark making skills using different media,  learn about their environment…  and see their aha moments and the big smiles that make for happy hearts.

I invite you to join me in making our lives brighter one mark and one journal page at a time.

Born and raised in New England, the daughter of a dairy farmer,  I grew up close to the land and knew our 180+ acres inside and out.  You might say I was a tree hugger from the get go!

Hooked on Art

In grade school, my folks recognized my desire to create and enrolled me in a local art studio program.  When it came time for college, I applied to just one.  I wanted to study fine art at the School of the Worcester Art Museum.  To this day I believe it was my sheer determination and single-minded focus that were the tipping points for acceptance into the program.  Out of the 60 students enrolled, only 16 of us graduated! At 22, I knew my art journey would blossom later in life. I was okay with that, and boldly stepped out into the business world.

My Journey

For the first 20 years, my corporate career revolved around the business side of creativity; from the inner workings of photographic laboratories, moving up to departmental management and on to advertising production management. The next 15 years were a combination of selling my work at art fairs along the East Coast and conducting  nature and illustrated journaling  workshops.   Then the  private community of Spring Island asked me to head up their Visual Arts Program.  This position perfectly utilized  my art, teaching and business backgrounds. For the next 11 years,  I continued to hone these special skills on this unique island in the heart of the Lowcountry of South Carolina.

Later in life has arrived!

I’m ready for my next adventure! I bring all that has gone before to the table and can’t wait to share my experience with you. I am ready to fly on my continued art journey.  Join me!
