Round, Flat, Chisel & Dagger • Brush Bootcamp
Using a floral theme, we’ll explore the marks you can make with each brush. You’ll find favorites for each stroke you wish make!
This workshop not only breaks the ice of working with different brushes, it also introduces you to painting directly with watercolor… “Look Mum, no pencil lines!”

What to expect:
We will get right down to the business of brush strokes and what types marks each of the different brushes make. Our study will be concentrated around painting sketches of flowering plants .
Building a brush vocabulary prior to painting builds confidence and lets you concentrate when creating a sketch or painting with your heart, head and hand in command. The practice built will quiet the ‘hesitant’ inner voice chatter.
What better place to establish your brush vocabulary than in a sketchbook? I can’t think of one! Be sure to have a pen or pencil ready to make lots of notes to go along with your brush strokes.
Use the brushes you already own. I’m a firm believer in seeing what different brushes can do prior to purchasing. Most important is learning what marks your various brushes can make and continue your studies with each brush.
Learn what type of brushes work best for you. Do you have a light or firm touch when you paint?
Are synthetic or natural brush hairs more suited to your style? Are you just beginning and aren’t sure? This class will help you better choose what to look for when purchasing brushes.
Once registered, you’ll receive an email with information on the sketchbook, bushes and paint I’ll be using, plus any photographs we’ll be working from. Again, it is not necessary to have the supplies being demonstrated. Think of it as more informational than necessary to have the same supplies. You’ll come away from this workshop with an idea of what brushes you’d like to own.
You may just want to watch the class and then view it over and over during the two weeks the link is live. The choice is yours.
The Zoom link will be sent via email on the morning of the workshop. If you are unable to attend live, no worries. All registrants will receive a link to the recorded session a few days after class and have a full two weeks access to the video.
