A real treat today. Rob and I went to Fish Haul Creek Park on HHI, SC. It was a rainy morning but as we made our way there, the sky started to brighten.
We sought shelter at the park’s gazebo. To our surprise, a huge flock of pelicans were covering a sandbar in Port Royal Sound. We’d never seen that many brown pelicans grounded before.
This is the view of the sandbar once we walked to the beach. Luckily the rain didn’t last for long.
Yes, Ann, the second sketch I used wc pencils and generals sketch & wash pencil for the clouds. I love that pencil for clouds 🙂 I'd go for some of that cooler mountain air 🙂
Beautiful! I especially like the second sketch – watercolor pencils? I miss the low country as I sit here in our foggy August mountains.
Thanks, Rhonda! We felt really blessed. This is a great park for birding – especially for shore birds. I've not heard of it being a resting place for pelicans so perhaps they are from the gulf!
So many pelicans – lucky you to see this – and lucky us that there are still so many, perhaps moving into SC out of the oil-slicked areas? Beautiful paintings, too, of course!
Thanks, Elaine! We were sooo thrilled to see these pelicans 🙂
Wonderful sighting, love your photos and your sketches are always delightful.
Thank you, Claire! It was a great break and painting plein air really shakes the cobwebs out 🙂
Looks like it was a lovely afternoon. I love your layouts and painting!!
