The Birder’s Journal Series was born (yes, my artworks are my children!) when living in Finger Lakes Region of Western NY. We met bird rehabber, Ron Walker, and as luck would have it, he lived just a few miles away. I was able to visit and sketch the birds that were currently under his care. It was truly magical to get this close to raptors and owls!
At the south end of the lake we lived on was a Great Blue Heron rookery. I was able to observe the entire process of refurbishing last year’s nests, mating, birds incubating eggs and mates bringing food, and finally see some of the fledglings first flight from their nests. They would practice flapping their wings days on end. I was their cheerleader behind my scope, flapping my arms – what a sight I must have been!
Please stop back by. More images will be added and…. Limited edition giclées will soon be available in my shop!
