National Parks • Ken Burns • PBS

You may be watching this series already but if not, try to catch it this evening – It began on our PBS station Sunday evening at 8 p.m. and there is an episode every night this week.  I’ve linked the title of this post to the PBS website that will give you more information.

The series is aptly titled “National Parks – America’s Best Idea,” and is true Ken Burns genius.  A must see!

  1. I think that's the exact purpose Ken Burns wanted to get across to everyone. Wake up America, we need to be diligent in preventing the consuming need for the all mighty dollar from destroying what we can truly and proudly call our own.

I loved the second episode. This is the first time I've seen a program that really delved into and celebrated President Teddy's foresight for protecting nature. What a great confluence……. Teddy and John. Thank you Lord!

  2. We've been enjoying it the last two nights. One of the surprise elements that I found, and it really seems to be intentional on the part of the filmmaker, is that the desire to commercialize/monetize the nation's natural wonders and natural resources is always there. It was there 150 years ago and it is still there today, constantly eroding nature, constantly requiring vigilance and opposition from those who care about nature.

I'm not sure if that is heartening or disheartening! But I have no doubt that Ken Burns intended for viewers to notice it.
