Sea Pine Forest Preserve Field Trip

Great fun today at the Forest Preserve.  The weather, while not as warm as predicted, was real good.  A bit of a breeze that kept our sweaters on, and high thin clouds that made for cooler temps but, after the unusually cold winter we had it was soooooo nice to see the wild flowers and trees popping.  Yellow pollen is everywhere!  Usually at this time of year, the wild flower field is full of poppies.  We saw only 3 or 4 plants.

Here are some images of our day.  The first is my demo as we sat above the wild flower field. The ink sketch of everyone (thank goodness you don’t know any of these people ’cause they don’t look like this! 🙂 is at our second location.

  1. Your sketches and blog are so delightfully story telling. I love your sketches and the field trips look enjoyable and a learning experience for sketchers. I belong to a great sketching group WhidbeyIslandSketchers in Wa. State. We have lots of fun events every Wednesday sketching scenery on the island.

  3. Sounds like a great time was had by all – unless their allergies were acting up. It's horrid here, too – the worse pollen levels in years, I think 🙁
But still the flowers blooming, the trees budding, how can you complain about any of that?

  4. Your field trip looks like so much fun. I would love the company. Yesterday I went out to the carpet of Bluet in my yard and tried plein air sketching for the first time. What a hoot. Me eye level with bluebells, bluets and some kind of orange
dime-size ants! I moved and gave them plenty of room.

    Love your new banner!

  5. Pam, your blog looks GREAT….and the outing WAS great!!!! What a super day and a wonderful experience for ALL of us! Many thanks!!! We're both eager for the next field trip we'll be able to make.

  6. Awe, that so nice to hear, Carol 🙂 I'd love to do another NY field trip too! Hmmmmm, maybe this summer!?!

Spring is soooo busy. Everything is popping and I'm trying to keep up with it and sketch plein air but, it is getting away from me, too!

  7. Ahh . . . I wish I could be a student of yours again . . . I am not missing the pine pollen, not here yet. Finally the Spring peepers and wood frogs are out. We have had some very warm days pushing everything ahead. I shall have to draw tomorrow!
